Wat vrijdagmiddag een werkbezoek moest worden, liep voor de raadsleden van de gemeente Lansingerland uit op een onverwacht avontuur. Tijdens een bezoek aan de nieuwe Rottemerentunnel bij de A16, raakte de raadsleden tijdelijk opgesloten.

“We mochten als onderdeel van het bezoek de tunnel in,” vertelt Abdelkarim Afalah van WIJ Lansingerland. “Hartstikke mooi om te zien, maar toen we terug wilden via het trappetje naar boven, bleken de beveiligde deuren allemaal op slot. En degene die ons eruit moest halen? Die was nergens te bekennen.”

Uiteindelijk stonden ze ruim een kwartier vast, waarna ze besloten dan maar zelf de tunnel uit te lopen — via het toekomstige autoverkeer. “Ik had alleen slippertjes aan, dus ik heb er een paar blaren aan overgehouden.” lacht hij. Gelukkig bleef het vooral bij hilariteit. “In de tunnel was het koel, dat was dan wel weer lekker.”

Hoe het precies kon dat een groep raadsleden werd achtergelaten in een afgesloten tunnel, blijft onduidelijk. “Er is waarschijnlijk iets misgegaan in de communicatie. Maar het was een unieke ervaring. We hebben er hartelijk om gelachen — en het verbroedert ook nog eens.”
