De gemeente ziet een opvallende verschuiving in digitale criminaliteit. Het aantal geregistreerde cybercrime-incidenten daalde met 55 procent, maar fraude met online handel nam juist met 24 procent toe. Dat blijkt uit de halfjaarlijkse veiligheidsmemo die deze week naar de gemeenteraad is gestuurd.

Volgens de gemeente is nog onduidelijk waarom echte cybercrime, zoals hacken of phishing, minder wordt gemeld. Mogelijk gaat het om onderregistratie of melden slachtoffers vaker bij hun bank in plaats van bij de politie.

Tegelijkertijd wordt stevig ingezet op digitale weerbaarheid. Jongeren konden in mei meedoen aan Re_B00tCMP, een landelijke interventie voor jonge cyberdaders. Ook basisschoolkinderen doen mee aan de HackShield-competitie, waarin ze leren hoe ze zichzelf online kunnen beschermen. Voor ouderen loopt een training tegen digitale oplichting, en ondernemers krijgen volgend jaar een eigen campagne.

De burgemeester benadrukt dat Zoetermeer “de digitale wereld net zo serieus neemt als de fysieke straat”. Eind 2025 verschijnt een nieuw Actieplan Digitale Veiligheid waarin alle maatregelen worden samengebracht.
