Het aantal meldingen van huiselijk geweld in Zoetermeer is in het eerste halfjaar van 2025 met 40 procent gedaald. Waar vorig jaar nog 133 incidenten werden geregistreerd, zijn dat er nu 80. Toch blijft het de vraag of het echt veiliger is geworden achter de voordeur.

De gemeente weet niet precies waardoor de daling komt. Mogelijk is er sprake van minder incidenten, maar het kan ook dat slachtoffers of omwonenden minder vaak melding doen. Ook het aantal huisverboden is lager dan vorig jaar.

Om huiselijk geweld eerder te herkennen, werkt Zoetermeer samen met GGZ Den Haag aan een proef waarbij signalen sneller worden opgepakt. Daarnaast probeert de gemeente via jongerenwerk en wijkprojecten beter in contact te komen met gezinnen waar spanningen spelen.

Hoewel de criminaliteit in de stad gemiddeld afneemt, benadrukt het college dat blijvende aandacht nodig is om kwetsbare inwoners te bereiken.
