De nieuwjaarsvoorstelling die op dinsdagavond gepland stond in het Stadstheater in Zoetermeer is op het laatste moment afgelast. Door aanhoudende sneeuwval en gladheid achtte de gemeente het niet verantwoord om bezoekers, medewerkers en artiesten de weg op te laten gaan. Het besluit werd genomen in overleg met het theater en de organisatie van de voorstelling, kort voordat het publiek werd verwacht.

Veiligheid als doorslaggevende factor

Burgemeester Michel Bezuijen noemt het besluit jammer, maar noodzakelijk. Volgens hem waren de omstandigheden te onzeker om risico’s te nemen. Niet alleen bezoekers, maar ook artiesten en technici moesten vanuit verschillende plaatsen reizen. “Als veiligheid in het geding komt, dan is de keuze helder,” aldus de burgemeester.

Onzekerheid over nieuwe datum

Of de nieuwjaarsvoorstelling op een later moment wordt ingehaald, is nog niet bekend. Het Stadstheater onderzoekt samen met de organisatie de mogelijkheden. Tickethouders worden hierover rechtstreeks geïnformeerd. De gemeente benadrukt dat bij toekomstige evenementen opnieuw wordt gekeken naar de weersomstandigheden en bereikbaarheid.
