Vandaag werd in Oosterheem het nieuwe Jelte Skatepark officieel geopend door burgemeester Michel Bezuijen. De initiatiefnemer, Jelte Petri, een leerling van basisschool het Noorderlicht, verzamelde drie jaar geleden 600 handtekeningen om dit skatepark mogelijk te maken. Na het presenteren van zijn plan aan de gemeenteraad, werd het voorstel goedgekeurd en nu is het park een realiteit. Tijdens de feestelijke opening werden verschillende activiteiten georganiseerd, zoals skatelessen, schminken, en poffertjes eten.

Jelte werd geëerd voor zijn inzet met een jeugdlintje en het skatepark is zelfs naar hem vernoemd. De burgemeester sprak lovende woorden over Jelte’s doorzettingsvermogen en moedigde andere jongeren aan om ook hun ideeën te delen. Het skatepark wordt al veel gebruikt door de lokale jeugd en de opening markeert een belangrijke mijlpaal voor de gemeenschap in Oosterheem.
